Getting Business Started

Today is the second day of fieldwork! It is definitely crazy and hectic! But, we managed, of course :-)

Here's a little overview of what we did:

We started by reviewing the vocabulary that we taught the students last time. They have some awesome memories! They made little to no mistakes with defining the words, as well as put them in their own words. Very impressive!

The presentation we presented focused on primarily the inquiry process, which I noticed, was known as the scientific method to our students. Then, we gave each group their "movie folders" and they investigated to find answers to the questions in their worksheet. Each group collaborated and were assigned certain roles. They all worked well together, and hypothesized, synthesized, inquired, and made conclusions about their movie.

They were also excited to get "biz bucks" for completing their homework. Apparently, money makes everyone happy!

And Fieldwork Begins!

Before my group presented to the 4th grade class so many thoughts ran through my mind - I was nervous, anxious, and honestly, I was not even sure that I was prepared for what was to come! Business is not a topic I have much expertise in, so I was pretty much learning the information, and I was responsible for teaching this to student. Not a very easy task, let my tell you! Because my group was the first to present, we had tons of pressure on us to set a good example for the next group to present. We had to set the foundation for the rest of the sessions.

Well, we introduced some of the fundamental vocabulary of business; such as, business, revenue, expense, and profit. We had to make sure the 4th graders had a strong understanding of this vocabulary because they would be implementing these words for all the other lessons. The students showed great comprehension, and they would even use their own words to define the words.

They had so much information to share about businesses; I would say they are quite the little entrepreneurs! The answers they were coming up with were pretty impressive  For example, one student knew that sometimes they use green-screens in movies. They are enthralled to have the opportunity to create their own businesses and movies! The students were so excited about gaining "money" if they did the assignment that was due the following class. Let's see how the next lesson goes!

A Little Snippet About Myself

I go by the name of Kelsey, but you can call me Kels. I am a Junior at Mount Saint Mary's College. My major is English, Elementary Education, along with a minor in psychology.

I am the mother of an energetic and intelligent 18-month-old, Silas. On my free-time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, hiking, and cooking. I am quite the book worm, I am always reading, and not just for my English courses either!

Along with being a mommy and college student, I also work for an agency known as WIC. I love my job, and that is something that not many people can say. The women I work with are wonderful!

As you can see, I am quite the busy bee! I will try my best to make time to blog on here about my experience during the last few semesters left in the field of education!

Blog ya' later!
